My mom came down to visit over Thanksgiving break this year. We had a great visit, even though it can be tough to deal with for both of us emotionally. We are both anxious and depressed individuals- YAY for family genetics. Luckily, I have mine under medical control and feel very optimistic, but my mom struggles. She has a great heart, but a very negative persona. No matter what, she's mom and I love her.
She is the one who taught me how to sew and though I am NOWHERE NEAR her level of expertise, she knows I enjoy creative projects. So she brought some printed out paper directions of a bedside organizer that my sister-in-law requested for her girls. I found the original seller, Higgos (the UK Company), of these organizers here for about $14, but my mom also had some printed out directions from Sew Mama Sew that she needed help deciphering.
Have I mentioned that my mom is a follow every direction exactly as it is labeled kind of person, which is great when you are using a Simplicity or McCall pattern, but doesn't make it easy to understand a sewing blogger's instructional. However, I am a that looks like a cool craft, I'll just guess what I need and wing it from there kind of person. Together, we figured out roughly what we needed to do and how to make it work for us.
So we went shopping to JOANN's and found the fabric, the rubber grip material, seam binding, and matching colored thread for each of my sister-in-law's girls and my girls.

It took less than two hours to complete this one for my oldest daughter. She loves blue and turquoise. We sewed one smaller section for her glasses to be stored also.
Please note there is no actual curvature of the finished product. I do not have a steady hand when trying to take a panoramic photo on my phone.
And of course our youngest girl loved her very pink book organizer as well.
**Note: Afterwards I went back to the store & bought fabric for my son, my husband, and myself.**
